How to Assist an
Injured Bird

  1. Secure the Bird: Gently place the bird in a well-ventilated box lined with a towel to provide grip and warmth. For baby birds or those with injuries, consider adding a second towel rolled into a doughnut shape for additional support.

  2. Create a Calm Environment: Keep the box in a dark, quiet location to minimize stress for the bird. If you can keep the box is a warm room, near a heater but not directly next to it

  3. Contact Us: Before bringing the bird to us, please direct message our Facebook pages; Flock Birdcare Wellington, Wellington Bird Rescue Group or contact myself through my personal Facebook profile - Nyssa Skorji.

  4. Please provide a clear photo of the bird, details of where, when and by whom it was found, as well as the reason for rescue/interference. We will assess the situation and provide you with the necessary admission approval, address and phone numbers.

A note on transportation

All birds will need to be transported to me in the Lower Hutt (address only on admission approval). Unfortunately, I’m unable to assist with catching or transporting birds, as I need to remain here to care for current patients. Making sure everyone is fed and medicated on schedule.
